While reading the article about the Digweeds at the Fort Worth Stock Show I was glancing through the headlines and I saw this immediately caught my eye and attention:
I read the article and here is a brief summary of the story; Harper Lee, author of one of my favorite books, "To Kill A Mockingbird", first wrote a book in the 50's titled, "Go Set A Watchman". This book detailed events in the adult life of Scout, with flashbacks to her childhood in Alabama. Many will recognize Scout as the daughter of Atticus, the defense attorney in TKAM. When Ms. Lee took her book to the publisher, they suggested she take these flashbooks relating to Scout and her childhood and write a different book. That new book became TKAM which has sold beaucoup millions. The original book seems to have been forgotten, and recently it was discovered attached to the original work, TKAM, stored away and forgotten, presumed lost. Harper Lee is still living, now in her 9th decade. . . . and apparently the book is going to be printed as it was originally presented to the publishers. . no editing .. no changes.
I am excited! I can hardly wait. I hope I am not disappointed! Afterall, it isn't like a sequel. . . . . it was actually written first and the To Kill A Mockingbird was basically the sequel.
I remember a number of years ago authors were interviewed and finally a best-selling author was given the rights to write a sequel to "Gone With The Wind".
I am still raging mad over that! I would not buy or read the book. Who wants to ruin one of the best books and movies of last century with a "made-for-profit-only" sequel not even by the original author. Not me. I have never even read reviews I hate it so much that book was written.
I think a multitude of savvy GWTW fans ignored that book too and it flopped. I hope.
