Gene,
Thanks for posting that! ! I just had this conversation of a human type regarding a baby and a flu shot. EVERYONE is pushing the flu shot. no one stops to think that you do not hear of the flu until they start giving flu shots and then the people who get mild cases after the vaccinations spread it. The shot does not cover all strains. . . and they have no idea what strain may be an issue. And they want to give this shot to a tiny baby? Dear lord.
I have had flu twice. . . . . I have had measles twice, ( big measles and little measles as they used to be called), and I've had mumps, and chicken pox, and scarlettina. Those illnesses helped me to build a fantastic immune system. Immune systems and health are built through being exposed to germs and disease. I take NO medications. My new doctor, ( thanks to the new health care and my many decades physician leaving the practice) was astonished that I take no medications. Nothing. Vitamin C which everyone should take, and on occasion some B. She wanted to attribute it to genetics. I attribute it to NOT TAKING MEDICATIONS!
Everyone should read that article and replace the word animal with human ! And remember this solid information that Jerry Belanger wrote in Countryside many, many, years ago, " HEALTH IS THE NATURAL STATE".

Judy, in a different article that I read a few years ago it was told that there are 68 different strains of cold virus and about 4 different strains of flu virus at any given time. Every time we have a cold and get over it, we become immune to that strain of cold virus. As we get older, we have had more and more of the different colds, so we have fewer and fewer. Soon we have had all that we are normally exposed to. Then comes back-to-school when the young ones re-unite and share all the strains that they picked up over the summer. They bring them home to us. This time of year is the season to get a cold. Then there is the flu. Unlike cold viruses, the flu mutates a lot. Almost every year a new strain pops up. We could have had several strains of flu before, but it doesn't give us immunity to the new strains. Flu mutations used to be blamed entirely upon migratory birds, that dispersed during the year and picked up new mutations, then re-united up north and shared them. Just like school kids and colds. Today, with so much international travel, we almost don;t need the birds. We can do it ourselves. The flu may be part of the grand plan for thinning the herd. Take care of yourself and try not to be one of the weak ones. Or at least try to catch a mild case. That is sort of the reasoning behind the flu vaccine. To expose us to enough weakened virus to induce immunity without making us sick. Mostly, it works, but remember that each of us that is exposed and develops immunity then becomes a carrier. Be sure and have everyone in the family vaccinated if any one gets it. I do not vaccinate any of my Dexters. I want them to develop their own immune system as well as possible. I also want to be able to supply Dexters that are free of everything (vaccinations, hormones, antibiotics, etc.) to those that insist upon them. Whenever I sell a Dexter to someone who wants a particular vaccination or their stste requires it, my vet takes care of it in his health exam and notes it on the health certificate. Buyers in Virginia and several bordering states can elect to take them in the same natural state in which they grew up. Judy, if you were a cow, I would advertise you the same as I do my Dexters, free of all un-natural medications. Unless I felt you needed worming
