With all the talk about the mild weather so far, I wanted to share this with you all. I cut this rose back for winter. It's right beside the steps to our front deck, and after growing huge this summer it was going to make it too hard to shovel off the snow. No snow so far..........No real cold yet even. It's December now and the rose is leafing out, like Spring. Yeh!! And they're really coming out. It's crazy!! Not complaining, it's been like a long Autumn here. We're expecting some colder nights coming this week. Most likely cold enough to zap the rose; but it has been an unexpected rest for our area.

Warm weather can be a blessing to us, but a killer for plants.
With out of the ordinary weather, I have lost most of my fruit crops for the last 2 years. Two years in a row the fig trees were killed down to the ground. I'm hoping for a crop in 2016. Fingers crossed.
Our Lenten roses (helleboros), that normally begin blooming about now, have yet to awaken. They are a cheerful sight in the coldest weather.
If you are lucky, your rose will go back to sleep and come bursting into bloom in spring. My fingers are crossed for you.
