Well we melted most of the 14" of snow in two days with a temperature of 40 Saturday and mid 50's yesterday with a lot of sun. There is still a few inches left where I didn't plow, but mud underneath. Now another 6-9 inches of snow Tuesday...lol! As warm and snow free as this winter has been, we've still received over 70" for the year. Then temperatures in the 20's until Sunday when it warms back up again and they're calling for 50's and even 60's next week. They'll be in the sacrifice areas by then. Frankly I'm looking forward to it. Hay is going up for sale around here now and it's pretty cheap for our area, so I'll start thinking about purchasing some to feed for over the summer. Yesterday I had several truckloads of field stones delivered before the frost laws come on. I'll put those in the deep mud areas on the driveways and let them work into the mud. At least I won't sink in up to the axles of the tractor. The stones come out of the fields where they raise the sugar beets and I have an endless supply of them available just for the price of trucking them to me. There are whole sugar beets mixed in with them but they look just like the rocks, and it's funny to watch the cows find them in the piles and start chewing on them.

Well, they upgraded the snow totals to 14" and up to 20" where the lake enhanced banding sets up for us this afternoon and tonight...sigh... At least this time the ground is reasonably frozen before it snows and it's cold so it won't be such a mess. Serious warm up next week, possibly into the 60's. The cows are ready for spring and at this point I am too.
I don't rely on sites like Accuweather and such for the snow amounts, because they take the whole area into account and not the areas most prone to heavy snows. There is a really good local meteorologist here on the radio, he and he's always been very accurate with his forecasts. Being such a farming intensive area of Michigan, the weather gets a lot of attention here.
