We just melted the last of our snow, and we still have some large snow piles at some of the larger parking lots around here, but the bright sun and warmer temperatures are making some headway on the mud. Nothing growing here yet, but it has always amazed me how drastic the changes are in just a months time from mid April to mid-May. We usually start seeing the first leaves on things in early May, and by late May we've finally fully leafed out. Lots of calves showing up now, two of them today, including our first bull calf in a while. Long legged. He'll be steered.

I sure hope Hans was not right when he predicted dry summer. It has been very dry here for April. Winter and March wet but not much here in April. Many nights still hitting the hard freeze. Maybe once we get some heat it will spark off storms. Those muddy padlocks now dry and dusty in a short period of time. The calf born this morning looked like breaded chicken after stumbling around trying to get up. It looks like you're going to get some rain this weekend Mike. Our forecast calls for sunny skies and mild temperatures for the next week at least. We sure need to dry out here.

Hans, It's good to hear that things are getting better for you up there. Hopefully it starts drying out now
We're really dry here now too. I put down a couple bags of seed on a pasture a couple weeks ago expecting a few days of rain to get it going nice. We got the clouds but just enough to wet the ground a little. We'll have to see how it goes. There saying some rain next week maybe. It's funny how things go isn't it. I've just been taking the opportunity to get some fencing work and the garden going.
Have you all priced grass seed lately? It is really UP there now. I went for brome and was told it was up over $300 a bag. You can guess I came home with just a pasture mix. Hopefully the brome in the hay we fed out will seed some.
