Being new to the Dexter breed I moved to this board with hopes of learning basics of raising good healthy purebred Dexters. Please I am not trying to aggervate . With all the experience on this board can we at least have a thread to help guide new comers in there effort ? I don't mind the politics and I absolutely stand with the traditional and legacy dexter type. But I also need to learn with a pause from the politics I believe that the so called Assoc. of any type have already done enough to discourage everyone . Please don't throw me off I do what to learn. We gust need some threads like the horns or others to enjoy and lay back.
Thanks for your consideration Dave

Hey Dave, Just start a thread of what you'd like to know, and one of these Gurus probably knows the answer or where to find it. Bill

The most basic advice I give to newcomers is twofold:
Get the very best starters that you can. The best conformation, temperament, pedigree, and suitability to your purpose. All of your descendants will carry your starter stock.
Go visit the Dexters before buying. Not only look at those you are interested in, but see the dam and sire. Make sure you can get along with the animal. The happier you will be with your purchases, the happier your experience with Dexters will be. It can be phenominal!

Thanks Gene. Have not had time to read it all but was taught to herd beside or behind but never understood why.
