Just wondering. I have never seen a year with so many acorns. They are everywhere here! A real bumper crop. We had to bring everyone into the little pasture and hay until the squirrels/deer get most of them cleaned up. Is it just this area or everywhere?

In years past we have had such a crop of acorns. I fenced off the section with the heaviest load of acorns and only let the Dexters in for one hour each day.
The goats easily walked under my temporary fence and pigged out, but it didn't seem to hurt them.
Once the acorns stopped dropping, I scattered hay over them, then opened up the fence.
Everybody made it through with no symptoms. Lucky, huh?

I think we do have a good acorn crop this year which the wildlife appreciates. It's probably a good idea to fence cattle off from the acorns so they don't have a problem.

Drat! Just another sign of a dreadful winter ahead? I am in a panic.

I know my grandfather always said that loads of acorns means a hard winter is coming. The deer should be fattened up this season for sure.

Not many acorns here. And it was in the 60's today. Our cows don't even have much of a winter coat yet, but I do see some evidence of it coming in pretty quickly now. However they're calling for accumulating snow Friday inland from the lakes, which will warm the air just enough to keep it from changing to snow here. However, we'll catch up and more, when the temperatures get colder and the lake effect snow comes. I've been working really hard to prepare for a winter like last year, when I had an absolute mess around here and couldn't find enough places to put the snow. Since I've done pretty well to get ready this year it probably won't be so bad. Forget acorns, wolly bears, hair coats, Farmers Almanac, etc... The severity of the winter for all of you will be dependent on how prepared I am for it, I swear!
