Across the wide Mississippi the preservation has grown in numbers with wonderful Dexters from the early northeastern bloodlines. A number of preservation breeders received Dexters transported from Shaun Lord's, Somday Maybe Farm to new homes in Texas, Missouri, New Mexico.
In 2004, a fledgling preservation effort sent a letter to the Boards of ADCA and the newly formed PDCA asking for cooperation in an effort to preserve the dwindling numbers of Dexters whose pedigrees did not reflect offspring from the three upgraded imported bulls post 1987.
ADCA never bothered to answer the letter. . . . and spent the next 14 years fighting the preservation effort through social media, and rules and regulations.
PDCA had their President, Wes Patton inquire and agreed to post an article in their association publication and though never overtly supportive never actively opposed preservation, and today PDCA is a friend to Legacy, Legacy Breeders Group, and the preservation effort.
Shaun Lord, an ADCA Director at the time, responded personally, and became the backbone of the preservation effort through her postings on social media and constant support of Dexter preservation at no small personal sacrifice. The preservation effort owes a huge debt of gratitude to the efforts of Shaun Lord.
This sounds like a good-bye to Shaun, and I don't mean it that way. She felt it necessary to decrease the numbers in her herd, but she will still be with us. Just not quite as "large".
I want to say thanks to Shaun, and I know many of you have the same heartfelt appreciation.
That is a very literal interpretation of "kicking up one's heels with joy".
Nothing but good words about this transporter I hear is out of Ohio!
