The AGM begins on Thursday. Last year the BOD increased all the member fees without so much as a whisper to their members.
Last year the BOD discussed impementing DNA typing of females and parentage confirmation but a survery prior to the AGM and inquiring of breeders garnered a big NO from the membership so they tabled it for fear they would lose members.
Do you think that will stop them this year? That is a big NO too! Expect full DNA testing to be implemented.

Not much information out there yet. Hopefully we'll be hearing more soon. I did hear about some huge prices being paid for some polled animals on another site. Way, way overpriced.
Although I personally choose to test and genotype our dexters here, I am NOT for making it mandatory. I still believe it is the wrong step at this time and would not be favored by the membership. And after all, isn't it THEIR/ALL OF OUR association still.
If the goal is to have a fully genotyped herd in the future why not go about it in a POSITIVE way. Put our heads together and make it a good move for everyone.
1. Offer a "heifer pkg" / "bull pkg". Registration, genotype, parentage verification for one lowered price. A test could be added to the pkg at a lowered cost to help sweeten the deal.
2. Offer an OBLIGATE CERTIFICATE program like that offered through Legacy/UCD. Educate breeders how to use this program to drastically cut testing costs. (Last year I saved a substantial amt of money using this program. I actually saved money genotyping and verifying the parantage of our calves.) WIN/WIN
3. EDUCATE, ASSIST, LEAD ... Don't mandate.

And whatever decisions are made, I hope they will be held equally for everyone. No more inequality "favoritism" for some.
I personally know of a fellow breeder who lost a very fine and much loved bull when Genotyping was made mandatory for all bulls a few yrs ago. Without the heavy duty equipment required to handle a fully mature bull and unable to get the required tail hairs he lost his herd bull and was left with beef. He also lost the revenue from his coming calves as they were now "unregistered" under the new rules. Unfortunately, most likely not an isolated case.
vs.
It was discussed on another Dexter Board about the great steps taken to keep this situation from happening to another breeder, far more prominant. His herd/animals were protected to the point of the assoc. accepting results through their dams.

I do lots of research on pedigrees and registrations. I noticed recently a bunch of animals that came in and did not meet current regulations. ADCA only holds to a rule until the sign on it looks like the green is fading. Every rule can be broken.
I noticed baby "Hugey won again and this is so egregious! If there ARE breed standards why doesn't the association enforce them at shows? Good grief! Isn't that the purpose to begin with? An officer of the association should be setting aside ego and setting an example of following rules! Those upgraded genetics (which include Angus which he certainly resembles) are doing irreparable damage to this breed! In other countries you meet the standard in the ring! I am just frustrated that ADCA will do nothing to protect this breed.
But . . . . I did hear there will be a "re" education committee to help new buyers with facts because of all the erroneous information out here! bahahahaha. I vote they start with the whitewash they perpetrated on Saltaire Platinum and Godstone Esmeralda! And THEY are worried about inaccurate information circulating to new members? I guess I should pack up for re-education camp.

I am sorry to hear that the same bull was awarded champion again. I was hoping to see a return to the breed standards this year. I agree that he is a fine bull (Nothing against him or his herd, or breeders or anything else ...etc.) Just doesn't look like a Dexter.
Since he is the champion has anyone ever recorded his stats, Height? Weight? I found another photo on the Missouri site hoping it was just that particular photo but he shows the same size.
Is there any information out there as to how these choices are made? The criteria used? Guidelines? Requirements that entrants must meet? Any factual information that would explain why a Breed Assoc. would judge a Grand Champion twice that is so far from its own Breed Standards.

The information from the meeting isn't available yet. . . . . . but since I was challenged by a member who apparently did get inside information and the board decided against implementing full testing at this time I must admit to erring in the belief they would. It is a good thing. I whole heartedly believe in DNA testing. . . . afterall I started it in the breed. . . . . but I do not think the time is right to make it mandatory for the breed. If it is a right and valuable thing to do. . . . then breeders will come to it on their own. I do think that associations should regard parentage if a breeder maintains a large herd and registers calves from multiple bulls. I also think there should be provision for random testing and it should be enforced without bias or prejudice to any particular breeder.
Parentage confirmation has served me well as a breeder and it certainly has maintained the integrity of the preservation effort. . . so owners will come to know the benefits it offers them.
