" My mother is still cooking at 97; she takes no prescriptions and will join me in admonishing you to "eat your liver!". This comment is taken from an excellent and very informative must-read article in the current issue of Acres, USA, by Will Winter, D.V.M. If you like liver please read this article! You will never eat "store-bought" liver again, I hope! If you do NOT like liver, please read this article. . . and give it a try.
When I was 11 I came down with strep throat which eventually led to hospitalization and a diagnosis of rheumatic fever and I was also severely anemic. I was "sentenced" to bed for months. Part of the prescription for my recovery was LIVER! I had fried liver and onions and sliced tomatoes and some form of potatoes served me THREE times a day while I was bed-ridden. One would think I would hate the sight and smell of liver. . . but my mom was a good cook and the liver was always tasty. Reading the comment by the vet about his mother had me thinking just how well liver does work to boost the immune system. I left the bed long before I was supposed to and refused to return and I have enjoyed good health ever since. PTL. I often cooked liver and onions as an adult.
This article, however, was very informative and I recommend everyone read it!

I once went to a Nascar race with a buddy of mine. We were going to stay with some of his kinfolk. We arrived early and found no one home, so we decided to stroll through the little town.
We passed by a restaurant with a sign: "Liver and Onions, all you can eat"!
We both stopped and looked at each other. "Can you get liver and onions at home?" we both asked. Without another word, we entered the restaraunt and began our attempt to make them sorry they offered all you can eat.
We waddled back to the house we would be staying at and found out the family had come home. The lady had filled a table to groaning with the most delicious looking and delicious smelling country food. We saw our duty and did it. Two pig-outs in one day.
I still have a fondness for some well-cooked liver. Mostly I'm restricted to fried chicken livers, that I can sometimes find at fast food chicken places.
We haven't served liver in my house for years and years.

I was always taught to be polite, and not say if you didn't like something that was offered, just say "thank you" and don't ask for seconds.(shudder) I think it's an acquired taste...
