Hey, it's not from us! It's still dark but I don't think we've had any accumulation, yet, ice pellets and rain I think. Though it's supposed to cool down enough and we'll get some lake effect snow, possibly a couple of inches, today.
Lake Huron though is pretty wild right now and all last night. The wind is howling and the waves are crashing on the shore and over the jettys. It's great sleeping if you like a little background noise! I'm waiting for daylight and being able to watch it for a bit this morning, before I go off to the farm and check on the cows. Lakes Michigan and Huron are up 24" in the past year (from record low levels), and are a few inches above their long term average right now, so the change has been pretty rapid, and if we continue this weather and have another winter similar to the last, we're then going to be facing some much higher than average levels, which cause some problems during high winds and waves. Though the lakes are very large, with sustained high winds you can get what is called a seiche. Think of a bathtub with water sloshing back and forth. Right now we're at the high slosh part. When we have really strong winds from the SW, the water is pushed to the other side of the lake, and the water levels go down sometimes dramatically. When the winds die down, the water comes running back to fill in where it used to be, almost like a mini-tsunami type of effect (only it doesn't go much if any higher than the normal levels).
I've decided this year to feed the beet tailings to the cows over the winter months. I usually get a semi-load for $60 delivered once a week, and the cows love them. When we have weather like this or heavy snow (which is a lot), they can't get into the farms that have them dumped in the field, so in order to get rid of them they bring them to our paved drive/lot and in exchange for being able to do that they are free. I'll have three or four loads delivered last night and today. Free food (about 30% of their diet are the beets, maybe more) for the next month!

The beet top sound good. I need to find a free feed too. Just joking about snow from you. I used to fish the Great Lakes on the tournement trails between it and the Ohio river I don't know witch is worst. Between the wind, barges, ships, and eddies a 21 footer was a RIDE. The prediction is for worst then last winter for us but I've always said I wish I could be wrong 80% of the time in my work and get paid.

No snow here. We dodged this one but did you see the snow in the South! Crazy!!
Hans you are so lucky with the beets. My girls love them. They get the tops and the skins left over from my garden. They all line up along the fence and just holler!

Score on the beets, Hans. You must be Real Close to the lake to hear the waves. I pay to go stay in oceanside places just to hear that. (think of it as saving you $80 a night!)
Blessings: Still time to become a Weather Anchor Person!
