On page 30 of the PDCA Bulletin there is an insert with the title, " Do You Know". I thought these were interesting;
* Cows have an acute sense of smell and can detect odors up to six miles away, which is also helpful in detecting imminent danger. No. I did not know this. I knew they could smell water and I knew they could always know when I was putting out fresh minerals, salt, or kelp because they would just appear from "nowhere", but six miles is intense.
* When scientists mapped out the bovine genome in 2009, they discovered that cattle have about 22,000 gene; 80 percent of their genes are shared with humans. ( 80% is an interesting percentage)
* Beef has 8 times more vitamin B12, 6 times more zinc, and 2.5 times more iron than a skinless chicken breast.

Well that explains quite a bit.
Always joked how the only two barrel-looking moos could smell the bales in the back of the ute before we entered the property
