I am having to reconfirm all my information on the list of herd share farms. I’ve gotten word in the past week of two closing down. 😔
One farmer has 13 Jerseys available to a new farm. Six are in milk, and he has heifers of varying ages.
I have another farmer wanting to get started, but is looking for land in the Clay/ Roane/ Braxton/ Kanawha areas. He has 11 cows/ heifers and needs a new place for them.
It’s a hard industry, y’all. Farming, dairying, is a gamble. It consumes your energy, life, time … everything. And when the production drops, or you realize how much time and opportunity you’ve lost with loved ones, it’s a real eye opener. It’s hard to stay in the business. Sometimes it’s impossible.
So those of you who have a raw dairy farmer, please encourage them. Offer to come help for an hour, and mean it. Pray for them. You have no idea how much we appreciate it!
