I just got an early Christmas present. Temple Grandin's book, The Autistic Brain. I'm downloading it now to my Kindle.

Wow! I just discovered that I was given an audio version of the book. I can listen, instead of reading.

I have been studying her web site for cattle and did not realize who she is. This is a dear subject to our family. Our daughter Laura has taught Special Ed for 5 years until last year. We have a close relative with autism who has never said a word to me in 19 years but talks a blue streak with some people. Nancy and I have been involved in groups that assist special needs children due to our adopted daughter Jennifer. One and half years ago one privately run group approached use about hiring a young man with disabilities. Due to the confidentiality laws and the stigma associated with some illnesses they were reluctant to revel his issues. After the second interview I boldly asked if he had autism and they reluctantly said yes. When I asked them why that seemed to be an issue they seemed shocked. There reply was that with most employers that ends the persons opportunity. Long story short Kevin has been one of the BEST employees I have ever had the pleasure of working with.

Dave and Gene,
I love books and I love to read. . . . and gosh I just don't want to like how much I like having the ease of carrying around a good book on my phone or ipad. I have collected books my entire life. My library wall is a solid 26 feet of bookcases filled to the brim in double rows on the shelves, and I have bookcases in other rooms chock full. I love looking at libraries in photos and being in any library or bookstore with shelves of books. What is going to happen to libraries and books? I will be just as much to blame as the next person. I still do buy books but I already have the "cloud" stuffed with books. I wish they hadn't developed this technology that makes me feel so guilty!
Autism. I wish some of the scientists out there would do some studies on the A2 milk and autism and publish findings. I cannot help but wonder about the commercial milk our children have been drinking from A1 cattle for two generations now! I have three grandkids that had various issues with milk when little and were put on Soy milk ( which I think is even worse), two of them would get outbreaks on their skin. The stats for autism should have at least a third of the research community looking for real answers. I carry with me words the editor of Countryside magazine wrote decades ago. . . " The natural state is HEALTH". If health is not present. . . .then we have to look to what is going into our bodies or the environment around it. Judy

I don't know if anyone has heard of Dr. David Perlmutter, but he's a neurosurgeon, and son of a neurosurgeon, who has changed the focus of his practice from surgery to Diet.
He's against a lot of things I eat, so I'm resistant, but claims that at least 50% of humans are glucose intolerant, in various degrees, and this food allergy causes inflammation, which in 20% of those allergic is manifest in documented gut problems. His theory is that tons more have BRAIN inflammation as a result. So many, that the first thing he recommends for any referrals is testing for Glucose allergy, and prescribes a glucose free diet for most of his pats. He claims that depression, ADHD, and a host of mental problems start there.
I don't know how I'd LIVE without wheat (bread and Pasta, mmm) but i think he's got science to back him up. Interestingly, he feels that the Best things for us are Good Fats, Red Meat, cheese, butter(!),and cholesterol, which he claims makes up most of our brain.
So I'm with him on that!
