The breed has been changed drastically in phenotype in a short 20 years. In posting photos of the earliest Dexter photos found in the herd books I hope that breeders wll see that not only do Dexters have unique breed traits. . .. they also had a very unique appearance. You could easily pick a Dexter out of a field of many breeds.

Whar year was this picture taken?
At first look I thought it was Ms. Schueler's bull, Armstrong of Paradise. I have a photo of him, taken a year ago, that looks just like that.
Evidently, the traditional genetics are still viable.

His registration number was 23. His name. . . Simple Simon. I assume the photo was taken at the show where he won an award in 1898.
You are right. Now that you said it. . . he does look like Armstrong.
