Mike,
Was this one of your steers? How did you get it to look that way?

yes it was. I should have also said we believe he was chondro. He was never tested. We would have kept him but he was PHA. It is quit easy nature does the work. I put it out in the woods In a dog crate(wire bottom no pan) to protect it from predictors. I put in the woods for 2 reasons keep it out of the sun and higher humidity. It only takes about 2 weeks for it to be totally stripped. Magets do most of the work but it is interesting to see the different Beatles that show up. I removed the horn caps at about half the time once they were fully cleaned and left the rest for a while. When done I did leave it set in the sun for about a day. You dont want to long of sun exposure it is very hard on it but dos whiten it.

That is cool!
A neighbor buried a skull to strip it. He got a lot of tiny worm traces on the bones. He didn't dig it up for a long time, so maybe that let the worms do their damage.
I'd like to have a skull like yours to hang over the pasture entrance where it would be seen by visitors.
What do you have planned for yours?

I think burring it would just slow the whole process down. I want to hang it over the front door inside the house but my wife does not want that. If you hand them outside squirrels will eat on them and it really doesn't take them long to destroy it.

Morbid topic, in my opinion. While I would not object to an "unknown" animal's skull hanging somewhere, I sure as **** would not have one my own animal's skulls hanging around. I should not own cattle. I should be a vegetarian.

Here in the South, We just stake the head out in a fire ant bed and they do all the work. Doesn't take very long before the skull is as clean as a whistle.

Gene,
If you really want a skull for your barn. . . I know someone who would give you a nice one.
