This is one of my favorite early little Dexters. I owned a Dexter that was the spittin' image. Again, I implore those of you who love this breed to look at these early animals. . . . . animals that were the foundation animals gathered for the Dexter breed and help us work to keep . . . . . or to bring back the unique Dexter phenotype. Were they all this tiny. Of course not! She is obviously a dwarf. But every dwarf cow can produce a non-dwarf calf. Those animals are sometimes taller. I will go get a photo of one of the taller cows I especially like and post it as well. ( Added after - the one I just put up is NOT the one I originally had in mind. Will get to her tomorrow).

Baha looks somewhat like the first Dexter cow I fell in love with, Pixie of Sussex. The Seddons were showing me their herd of Dexters and my eyes kept being drawn back to Pixie. She was gorgeous.

Maybe one of the Seddons will add her picture here. If she is gone . . . . . . she is history. I think Pixie grew and changed a bit didn't she? Or am I thinking of that other cow I liked so much? Maybe it was Pixie. I am thinking of her in her old age.

When I saw the photo of Baha, I immediately thought of Pixie of Sussex as well. I've just gotten a new computer and all my photos are still on the old hard drive. I am praying that everything can be retrieved and loaded onto this one. If so, I'll put up a photo of Pixie. She was a great little cow!

Pixie was a wonderful little cow, knew all there was to know about raising calves. Pixie was probably no taller than 38-39", if that. The minute her last calf was weaned, she developed arthritis and was retired. She was euthanized at the age of 14 and is buried here on the farm. Here's Pixie of Sussex:

What a distinct and beautiful dexter. The old lines, you just can't beat them.

I agree. I always considered Pixie a "classic." Still have her granddaughter (OTF's Melinda) here and she's a good one too. I'll look for a photo to share.

I do like Melinda a fraction more than Pixie ONLYL because of her horn placement - Im still warming to horns that are raised more than horizontal to the head
Totally personal opinion. They both are nice looking girls.
