Bill,
Jim Lents owns a Hereford herd in Oklahoma. If I recall correctly it is the Anxiety herd? This herd was founded on original horned Hereford imports and the herd was closed and has been linebred since the late 1800s. The book is about line breeding
Donna. Did you order from Mr Lents? He is a delightful man. I heard of his book years ago after reading some of Mr Fry's articles and views on linebreeding and you could not find the book. There was one copy on the internet for $400. I called him to see if he still had copies for sale and shared some emails. He then sent me one of his newsletters that he published which had photos of his animals and it was excellent reading! and the photos of his animals definitely a advertisement for linebreeding. I lamented the lies that were told that brought polled animals (a dominant gene mind you) into a horned heritage breed so small in number and he wrote me the detailed story of the same deceit that took the horns off Hereford cattle. The difference being that when the polled came into his breed which numbered hundreds of thousands of animals as it was the prominent beef breed in America at the time, and when polled came to the US there had only been 6500 animals registered in the entire history of both US and Canadian animals. (Goodness how could leadership have been so negligent?)
Anyway. There is a twist to the book. I am not telling it though until you have it

Whoops. Sorry for not coming back to this thread - I was pre-occupied on another Judy answered with a better explanation than I could have - thanks Judy And yes, straight from Mr Lents himself, and the wonderful man has signed it for me too. He has listened to our plan of three colours and two sizes while following his principles. He accepts what we are am trying to achieve but thinks we won't be able to fully reach the goals of what he is famous for.........I'm optimistic we can get darn close, and he has asked for us to keep in touch as we journey along the path

Hi I emailed him direct. He is very personable, and happy to help. Which is wonderful when one is seeking not to re invent the wheel
