The Grinstead Herd Video Thread has been "tagged" or violated to the point I don't want to pull it up out of the muck to ask a simple question: Judy, or anyone , Does the Grinstead line or herd still exist? or are there still cattle alive which still carry those lines?
Thanks Bill

I dont think anyone kept it going. You will not find a Dexter in america today that does not have grinstead in the pedigree. The last one I know of would have been peerless but at the very end of that they even brought some animals into there herd that would have had grinstead ancestor.

It was prematurely killed!
Thanks Mike, So Grinstead were some of those early settlers, the "Mayflower" equivalent types Judy talks about? And are Peerless still in pedigrees of today?

No the grinstead were an English heard they came here latter. grinstead did not have any upgrades. The peerless herd was formed from those early animals and probably one of the most significant herds here in the US. Later they did bring in animals that had grinstead and even bullfinch. I think the peerless herd still exist but they stopped registering long ago so essentially they were lost. Peerless is found in most pedigrees maybe all. I am sure you have heard of the colorado herd. We are continuing a part of that herd. It is mostly peerless with a little grinstead.

Thanks Mike. Yes I've heard of the Colorado Herd, and you are fortunate to have been able to acquire some of those, and many of us are really glad that you did. Are you keeping them as a separate herd, or folding them in? Any idea of timeline on either herds?

Yes the Colorado herd will remain a closed herd here. So we will have 2 separate closed herds. However my other herd also has some animals with Colorado in them. So they are not totally unrelated. The peerless herd was 1918 and stopped registering in 2001 it looks like. They brought in some grinstead back ground in the 70s and added bullfinch into the mix in the 80s. Not sure on the exact dates on Grinstead but 40s and 50s for sure.

Thanks Mike, I had not read that bit on the ADCA website, I have been less than anxious to visit there, given the mis- information and Bias I've read about. That is a good article however.
One thing tho, was the Colorado herd actually in Colorado, or was that just the name?

The ADCA is not all bad. there is good information out there. I would encourage you to read the info out there. The Colorado herd was in Delaware. I think I herd the owners had lived in Colorado.
