Is this a typical red bull? Do red animals have light patches around their eyes that are this noticeable? I cannot tell if some of the black/white photos have shading from the sun or lights or if it is dirt on coats. . . or the coat itself.

Yooooo-hoooooo. Still waiting over here. This is not a trick question. This bull is listed as a red bull. I am still searching for that early dun registered as red! Is this a typical red "look"?

Judy, I'd say it's indicative of a e/e type red. But it's possible it could be a dun too. A lot has to do with the time of the year the photo was taken I think. Sheril says red because the eye is dark. Dun would have a lighter color eye.

Hans, I think he is likely the deep Irish-setter red they say was in the breed early on because of the lightness around the eyes. BUT. . .I've seen that light ring around some duns too.

I checked my reds... In some, the light ring around the eyes is just the light pinkish skin showing through - the same color as the pink nose... But In some, there are also some VERY light-colored fine hairs, enhancing the ring look.
I noticed that the cows with the pinkest noses have the more noticeable eye rings.
There probably are not many duns with very light noses.
