O V D B show is May8 & 9 and got informed there will be a Dexter Oxen display at it. Glad I joined them but have not been the most active in it yet. Most people call Dexters a dual purpose breed but if I am correct it is a tri purpose breed. Anyone got pictures of all three purposes ?

I see a few pictures every now and then of dexter oxen. I have always thought it would be neat to do that but dont have the time and cant spare the steers for it. If I did it it would have to be with a bull or cow. Maybe pull a cart or something. I think it would also be cool to ride a bull. Not Like a rodeo more like mongo in blazing saddles.

I saw a cool video of a girl riding a cow, complete with saddle.
Amy Hayner had a miniature horse cart that she and her daughter rode in in parades. She was planning to pull the cart with one of her mini cows.
We have a parade here each year in Dinwiddie and in Blackstone, where you can see old tractors, wagons and horses. I would love to walk a pretty little Dexter heifer in one or both of those parades. I'd need a volunteer for shovel duty.
One evening a man called here saying he was going to buy Brenn. Not that he wanted to buy him, but that he WAS GOING TO buy him. He wanted him because he'd seen Brenn's picture on the ADCA AI Bulls page. He loved his horns most of all. He wanted Brenn to parade around the arena between events at rodeos, carrying 2 or 3 6 year old kids on his back. He said the parents would pay. He said that there would be grandmas and grandpas crying in the stands!
We talked for a long time. I enjoyed listening to him. He was quite a showman. He offered an outrageous amount of money, but the answer had to be no. Still, I think it would have been cool to watch it.

Blessings,
The Ohio group is a great group of energetic folks! They accomplished so much in a very short period of time. For PDCA members who read this board. . . . . .PDCA is holding their annual meeting at the same location and time.
Mike, there is a Legacy breeder in Texas who has trained a young bull to the yoke. His wife had a special yoke made for him to use. Now. . . it's your turn! Smile. I have a great article written by Charles Wells that tells how to train oxen. Goodness. I have not seen Charles around for a while. I need to invite him to drop by. I always enjoyed him in other forums. He is like Gene. Writes a good story.
