This photo on another thread was identified as "Dexters". These are identified by photo as Kerry catle. Judy

The bull in the 1868 picture looks like a classic dwarf dexter bull and may be the first "Dexter" in America (but still called Kerrys in 1868). These animals were imported to New York in 1864. It's quite likely that descendants of this bull are in the American Dexter herd.

I think he is not. Low clearly describes the Dexter breed in his works prior to 1868 and by name, " Dexter". If any had been imported to the US they would have been written about and called just that. Dexter. I actually have an early published article on my website which does discuss Dexter cattle.
I have looked through early magazines and records with emphasis on cattle and agriculture, and I have a very early 1800s newspaper clipping which is fascinating because it details the prices paid for the animals and shipping costs, but I have never found a mention of Dexters being imported.
