What a fitting day

I was all excited today. I wanted to get a picture to show you all our new "penalty box" we are working on.  With Macklynn growing up now, we're planning for him and getting things ready to keep a herd bull.  He is such a good fellow.  But then.....  Something jammed and We broke the doggone post hole digger - snapped it good.  What a job getting that thing taken apart; it was bent every which way.  Sooo that job is put on hold for a day or two until we get the new one hooked up.

So I went back to the cold frame I started.  Only to find that one of the windows I was planning to use was broken.  It must have blown over somehow, but it wasn't windy today.  But while cleaning up all the glass, and poking my finger in the process It came to me - I realized today just had to be April 1st.    

I'll be getting those pictures up as soon as I can, and hopefully everyone had a little less "interesting" April Fool's Day.

At the rate that I repair equipment and machinery around here every day must be April 1st! I am well known around the family for snapping handles of shovels, manual post hole diggers, rakes, brooms, other tools.
I've managed to break just about every implement that goes on the tractor too. Fortunately the tractor is still holding up.
Of course being in the window business I've broken my fair share of glass too!

Yesterday we sorted the cows with calves away from the rest of the herd and the bulls. We've decided that we're going to limit the January and February calving next winter to the chondro positive cows. They just take up so much less room in the stalls than the others, and especially the Highlands..

The bred cows are still with the bulls, but getting everybody split up was interesting. Only one or two bred girls sneaked through, but we'll work on getting them back tonight...

I had 2 cows do on April 1st or so I thought. They did not calve in fact I dont think they are do for a while. I guess they have been planing there April fools joke for 9 months. Thats dedication to a joke.
