After searching for a Traditional AI Bull we chose Armstrong of Paradise for this season's calves. Dual purpose and HORNS were a must. And we wanted nice small calves for easy deliveries. And now we are thrilled with the results. The calf is about 30 lbs, well built and very vigorous. He was up nursing at 30 min and was playing in the field that evening. The delivery was very quick and easy.
If you are planning to AI this season check out Armstrong. He is a great choice as is his sire Brenn of Paradise. We also have a daughter of his CHW Caitlyn and she is a beauty too. Both are black, horned, A2/A2 and PHA free. Brenn if you are searching for a shorty (chondro carrier) and Armstrong if you are looking for a LL.

Yes, this is Kate's newest calf Wallace. LHR Kate II - Modern Horned as she does have Lucifer in her pedigree. We breed all our girls to Traditional dexter bulls. TH and MH
Most of the AI bulls (adca) available now are from modern lines and polled. Not what we are looking for.

It took 3 years of searching to find a traditional, horned, A2/A2 bull to go into Canada to breed Canadian cows. RCF's Merriwether Stout was chosen. He is from strong Windridge lines with Cool Hand Luke of Dog Run. A nice, traditional combination.
So many of the Canadian bulls available for AI descend from the same lines that have now permeated the US herd. So are the cows. Having this bull up there should widen the genetic selection. Maybe with care, they can establish some traditional lines there.
I continue to get inquiries from people wanting to buy a similar bull. If you have a fully tested traditional bull to sell and you are fairly close to the Canadian border, drop me a line.

Stout is not available for AI as far as I know. The intent of the group that bought him was to have him collected once he was in Canada, to avoid the hassles of exporting semen from US to Canada. His first order of business was to breed the cows belonging to the group. They were mostly polled red cows from the same bulls, over and over. Semen choices in Canada were limited, and mainly consisted of the same bulls that had already been overused. Stout's purpose was to widen the available gene pool in Canada.
I spent 3 years locating and getting him sent across the border. Once he was on his way, I put my mind to other affairs that needed attention, so I haven't heard from him since he left home, except for one note that his border crossing had been delayed for a while and he was residing just this side of the border awaiting another test result. That was last spring. I hope he finally made it across. I can't email the agent I was working with before, because she has moved to another agency. I actually have no contact I can ask, other than Stout's seller.
I'll put that on my agenda and get back to you on it.
