And. .. in other news from Ohio. . . .. . Ohio beekeepers say they've lost much of their beehive colonies over the past year, and it is becoming increasingly difficult to keep the bees healthy.

And.    .in Kentucky, the state veterinarian has banned the sale of birds at flea markets and swap meets to protect Kentucky's poultry industry amid an avian flu outbreak.

And. ... in Anchorage Alaska, I am sad to report the news that Stormy the bull is a coward.  When a curious brown bear showed up at an Anchorage area farm, the cows in a small herd of Yak defiantly surrounded the calves.  But NOT  . . Stormy the bull.  He high-tailed it out of there and didn't even look back!

And. ..  .in Michigan the first cases of HPAI, ( highly pathogenic bird flu)have been found in free-ranging Canada geese north of Detroit.

And. . .  in Maryland more than 200 birds were removed from the property of an Odenton man who is facing cockfighting charges.

Condolences to the family members of two farmers killed on small farms and one hospitalized.

In Tioga Country Pa, Jason Kingsley, 26, who began his new farm job on the morning of his death, and Eric Stone, 39, were overcome by gases in an 80 foot silo while the men were filling it and a chute became plugged. and in Mechanicsburg, Ohio, Austin Ayars, 34 was killed on his dairy farm when he fell into a grain feed mixer.

I heard a rumor of a man gored by his Highland Bull, (I did NOT see that on the news), does anyone know anything about that?

Yes, I heard that on the radio, I think last week, but Tje details were sketchy and I wondered if he might have suffered
 a medical emergency and collapsed first.  I just had the mental impression of how cattle will try to get a fellow herd mate up when they are down. Some folk see that as aggression against a helpless herd mate, but I have seen it a couple times and thought it may have been a different intent.

Brenn once frightened a fainting goat, that promptly stiffened and fell on his side. Brenn stuck his horn under the middle of the fainting goat and stood him back on his feet. The goat gradually loosened up and staggered away.

When I saw Brenn start to stick his horn under the goat, I thought the worst. I figured I had just lost a goat. I was pleasantly surprised.

There was a recent story in the Richmond paper about a man who was found dead in a corral with a bull. I don't remember there being a breed mentioned.

Lots of people having pork chops in Ohio. LOL As for Stormy, my guess is he will soon be replaced as sire. Kind of funny what the ladies must have thought as they watched their handsome protector run off.

I am so sorry to hear about the men. It is so sad. We have been so busy with the farm, I haven't kept up with the news.

I googled the newsfeed. The 51 year old man, Christopher Merrill, was found in his pasture in Hampton Falls,New Hampshire, farm. Four Highlands , 1 a bull were in with him, the report said it was not definitive whether an accident or attack. It was May 31, but took awhile to hit AP.
