We have two body types of Dexters it appears the more milk cow look and the other more beefier look. Along with this there are two other things that are starting to be obvious . Udder size and shape and coats. Udders I can understand but the difference in coats I cant. This difference has to do with curls . Our original duns have very noticeable curls in fact the bull 13 month looks like he has been to a hair stylist . Our blacks and even the modern horned have very few if any curls. So is this color or genetics ?

it is genetic + testosterone. Testosterone increases the effect also makes the coat darker. If genetics were = which they never will be then more curls and darker coat = higher testosterone.

Brenn had a curly winter coat that would get shiny during the summer. Here's his February coat.
I went to a farm in Maryland that had all duns, and they were the curliest Dexters! It has to be genetics.
Here's my 2004 herd bull's curly head in November.
Here he is the previous July. Just as curly. Contrast him with Blair, from the Windridge line. See how shiny and smooth she is.
