commercial market has some affect on Dexter prices but not much. Sorry to here about your issues. If you decide you must sell dont sell at auction you will loose money and the dexter world will loose some good dexters. I dont think you will have any problems finding buyers if it comes to that.

If you need to sell some, let it be known here and on the Traditionally Horned Dexters Facebook page. Then list them on the Homesteading Today Cattle forum.
I was very sad when I had to sell some of my best Dexters. Windridge and Fermoy descendants. But I made some really terrific friends in the process. I can't say it wasn't supposed to happen like that. Karma, you know?
Here's my story about the Livestock market: I had been searching for Dexters without luck, when I heard of some near me. They had belonged to a guy who was sent to prison for life. A new man just took over his farm. I went to see the Dexters. They were an older bull and cow. The cow had a broken horn. Their names were Raven and Moses. They had two steers and one heifer with them. The owner wouldn't sell.
Research showed that the elders were Rock Hall Raven and Moses of Dog Run. Good Traditional and Legacy pedigrees. I told Judy about them and she got excited. She urged me to go back and get them, somehow.
I was too late. The man told me he had taken them to the livestock market. He intended to sell them for enough to buy some Angus feeder calves. He snorted and said, "They didn't bring enough to buy even one Angus calf."

I waited 4 years to get started back into cattle . Almost bought mini herfords went back to dexters and we love them. We are not going to sell utill double hockey sticks freezes. Aron will put two to three more at his place I ll provide hay. Aron and I are long time buisness and family friends and he already has the two hiefiers. I should have asked the Question differetly I was more concerned about processed meat pricing. Aron who owns A @ A greenhouse are considering a farmers type market at their location. Main highway U S 127. In the area we have pasture raised Dexters, Herfords, Short horn, clow feet hog , sheep , eggs , rabbit , muscovies and A @ A s 4 green houses (approx. 15,000 sq. ft. under roof.) Aron and I own ours independentlly I have 5 and he has 3. I have all traditional and Aron has one modern horned shorty and traditional. The shorty was purchcased for his children and my grandchildren for hopfully FFA and 4H stock in the future. So there is a plan but only the good Lord knows the end result.
