Good news for you fans of black horned Dexters in America.... There are nearly twice as many of them registered per year now, as there were 25 years ago (before the polled gene was available)
Stats:
770 Black horned Dexter calves registered in the most recent full year of Dexter registrations.
410 Black horned Dexter calves registered in 1990... before the polled gene was available in the US
Dexter breeders are registering nearly twice as many traditional black horned Dexters per year now, than 25 years ago.
It looks like the big boom in red and polled dexters has greatly helped with the popularity of black and horned dexters too!
Black Horned Dexters aren't disappearing... they're doubling every 25 years!
This should make everyone happy!

Your title is wrong. It should read, " More OUTCROSSED Black Horned Dexters Now Than Ever Before"
"i" compile the stats. I started a thread on this recently wondering why breeders who were breeding horned cattle were doing so with descendents of a NON-purebre bull instrpead of getting older traditional or Legacy bloodlines and breed to RESTORE these original bloodlines and phenotype instead of xhoosing to breed all the horned cattle from polled lines.
The answer.......IGNORANCE! They filled their pastures with a big deceit perpetuated by leadership in this breed.
