Just read news artical on this as today is the 40 th. Aniversory ( us northern folks remember this ) . Was amased it said that in the last 30 years almost 30,000 people have died in almost 10,000 ship wrecks on the Great Lakes . They clamed the Nor easterns can be as fierce as a huricaine . We have fished these lakes alot in a 18' bass boat and have always respected them but this puts a new light on the large lakes for me .

Looks like there could be serious waves and weather for the Great Lakes again today! With possible 20 foot waves! Stay back from the shore , Hans!

I'm looking out now and there are a bunch of freighters anchored, obviously waiting out the winds and waves before venturing out into the middle of the lake. They don't take chances any longer. They also wait before going down the St. Clair river when the winds are high. The river is probably less than 1000 ft. across under the #1 bridge crossing to Canada at the bottom of Lake Huron. You could imagine what kind of problems that would cause if a 1000 ft. long freighter, that is high in the water without a load and acting like a sail, not to mention the strong current as the water comes out of the lake, got a bit sideways and off course!
