Bambina didn't come up to the barn tonight, so I found her hidden out in the far corner of the woods with a new heifer calf.
As if I didn't already have enough to be thankful for!

I imagine fall is a nice time of the year to calve there! I sure like fall calves, they get their care and feeding from mom during the cold and snowy months, and are ready to wean on nice grass in June.

Let me introduce you to Punkin of Paradise. As in Pumpkin pie. This little girl was the dessert for our Thanksgiving day!

Not that way, Dave. We're just so tickled to have her. I had her due date listed as 3 weeks from now. Oops!
Bambi should be next, followed by Eve. Meanwhile, Chautauqua Cred is supposed to arrive on Mongay afternoon. It won't be long before my pastures are filled again.

What a sweet picture. And I love the name!
Is she a full sister to Vera J?

That waits to be determined. It was while attempting to breed Bambina, Bambi and Eve during the ice storm that Brenn broke his back and had to be put down. McBrenn took over as herd bull. DNA parentage verification will sort out who's her Daddy?
I'm betting Brenn for Punkin, even odds for Bambi, and odds on McBrenn for Eve. That is based upon their calving dates.
We'll see. I pulled Punkin's tail hairs today.
I also cleaned up her poopie butt! Sometimes the milky manure is so sticky it doesn't drop and it becomes my job to make sure everything stays in proper working order.
Did I hear you say you want to be a farmer?

That's a 10 month calf! Bambina's second for 2015. mid January / late November. Very, Very impressive Gene. I'm so pleased to have her first heifer calf Vera J here with us. She's expecting her first calf in just a couple months, and it is great to see such strong/fertile lines behind her. I have to say I'm routing for ole Brenn on this one for you. And the answer is definitely Yes!! I dreamed of it all my life

Karrie, so many of our Windridge cows had 10 or 11 month calves. I hadn't noticed it yet with Punkin.
I had a mixed breed cow here that had a 9 month calf! To the day!
