one of the vertical bars got broke out of my hay feeder and it left an opening big enough for a calf to get in. My youngest calf got in the other night and instead of backing out he kept trying to go forward and got himself pined up in the air between the bale and the feeder. My wife found him in the morning and got him free he was likely hypodermic by that point. He was okay after a few hours and has been fine since. Luckily the low that night was only in the lower teens had it been one of the colder nights or my wife had not found him when she did he might not have made it. Calves do have a nac for getting themselves into predicaments.

Happy to hear that the calf is going to be OK. They have all the time in the world to get into trouble!

Lucky you, Mike, and Really Lucky him. If he doesn't have a name yet this should help! I guess this is an excellent example of why you've got to be checking on your critters all the time!

after he got over to mom and got a belly full of warm milk he bounced back quickly. I guess that is another benefit of not weaning early.

Glad things went will Mike . We have just had a dog kill some chickens , cats , and scared a goat . Nancy found him in the hay barn and can spot him if we see him and the guns are loaded and I will ask question later .
