Congratulations, Karrie.
You won the race to have the first new traditional red calf!
Sweetie will be well remembered when people see her new grandson.
Did you email Chad Williams to tell him?
If I remember right, the sire is Rainbow Hills Big Mac, a traditional dun bull that carries red. That means you had to beat 4:1 odds to get a red calf.

Thanks everyone. We are so excited too. I couldn't believe it when I saw him. Red and a Bull calf. Just what we were wishing for. And he is so pretty and healthy. 1 in 4 chance, that's what we figured too. That's for a red calf; then half it again for a male. We are truly lucky and very blessed I think. Must be the fact that we're a little Irish on my Mom's side.
He was born last evening and is a well built, thick little fellow. It wasn't the quick easy delivery but both came through happy and healthy. And he has been busy all morning checking out the little pasture and meeting the rest of the family.
We took special care in choosing his name. Knobley Macklynn
Mac for his sire: Rainbow Hills Big Mac Lynn for his dam: CHW Caitlyn
Macklynn is an old Irish/Celtic name meaning "Son of Flann". The name Flann in Irish/Celtic means "red haired".
It fits really well I think. Special

Thanks Gene. I am so glad that we have Macklynn now to help carry on his grandmother Sweetie's red. This has been such a great month for us all in getting 2 bulls for the preservation effort; E+ and e. I e-mailed Chad last night and told him the big news. He's pretty excited too. Carole: Thanks, and Yes, We got our bull. We'll be keeping everyone up-to-date with plenty of pictures and info as he grows. He'll be our new herd bull and will be here if you all and Esther Lynn want to come for a visit down the road.
We will be pulling tail hairs and having him tested and genotyped UCD through Legacy in the next couple days. He is:
PHA free Obligate status A2/A2 Obligate status Chondro ?? Traditional Horned

His mama Caitlyn is one of my chondro carrier cows so he could be a shorty. (She is my avatar.) I can't tell about him yet, he could go either way. We'll be posting more pictures as he gets older and will be testing him UCD/Legacy in the next couple days.
Sorry, but we won't be selling this one. He'll be staying here as our herd bull and becoming part of the preservation effort. We think he is going to be quite popular too.

Yup Karrie, most including myself figured he was a carrier. Absolutely perfect! I suspect we're going to have to put our heads together and figure out a plan for Macklynn and our traditional girls that carry red, even ahead of when he could be collected.... Partner Think of the popularity of a non-carrier traditional lines red bull too! The only downside is on our part, Lady II and all of our girls that carry red, (except for Dolly who is A2/A2), are A1/A1. I'm sure that can be overlooked for a while.
