Hi everyone First please excuse my complete ignorance………..
How many generations do USA and Canadian breeders expect to have verified when buying Dexter bulls / semen please?
My small understanding is that the DNA verification of the sire has been around for a little while?? Say now an expected 3 generations ??
Cheers Donna

Donna, The general population of US Dexter owners is new to parentage verification. Many do not expect any verification at all. It has only been in the last few years that genotyping has been in the public eye. That only involved genotyping sires.
I have been genotyping, with parentage verification since 2006. I sell semen that is parentage verifiied. However, I have yet to have a semen buyer inquire about whether my bull is parentage verified.
Legacy was the first registry to provide and encourage parentage verification. PDCA still doesn't. ADCA just made an issue of it last summer (June 2015).
What is the situation in Australia?

Oh , that’s a bit of a buggar then
Australia began DNA parent verification somewhere around 1992-93 with it becoming an eligibility criteria for registration soon thereafter.
It difficult to figure out the mentality or reasoning as to why Australia has been so adamant regarding DNA parent verification to both parents for Australian-born Dexters without any hesitation of listing imported semen without the same or similar stringent requirements?
Even Grade 1’s were, and still are required to be DNA PVed. So why not imported semen?
Maybe I should be so cheeky and suggest to HDCRA’s Board that only imported Legacy (DNA PVed) semen is allowed to be entered *LOL* Oh what a stir that would create !!!
[Its Friday here and near to the silly hour.......]
Cheers

all of mine are done when can be. I have some older ones that sire or dam are long gone so it is not possible. I have other ones that go back 5 generations on one side.
