I hope we hear from Karrie and she is OK.
That stream that floods at Judy's place does a lot of damage. I'm glad to hear that she is OK. I hope the cattle are.

I am fine but I too was concerned about Karrie as I heard there was flooding in Burlington and she is in a hollow.
i got a late start on my trip to WVa and after stopping for a short nap and gas got to the farm around 2:00 in the mornimg and crashed. I was awake early and it was pouring rain. POURING!!! And thunder rolled and shook the house like an earthquake would. I had a pot sitting outside and I emptied it three times during the day and there was at least 12 inches of rain. The preservation herd and the neighbor and myself are high enough that there were no issues with flooding, but the little stream that runs alongside the entrance road and then crosses beneath a bridge was flowing with so much water it carried debris, trees, and massive amounts of rock and blocked the bridge so we were trapped in the hollow until this afternoon. The electric was also restored this afternoon.
i am about 15 miles west of the famed Greenbrier Hotel and resort which dates to the pioneet days of George Washington. The Greenbrier golf Classic was scheduled in early July amd has been cancelled. The entire golf course is under water. I have been told some horses were lost in the stables.
That is the SMALL stuff.
The entire town of White Sulphur Springs is a disaster area with property destruction, personal homes, automobiles, personal property and lost lives of residents. One woman called her husband at work to tell him the water was rising in their home, went to the attic thinking she would be safe, smelled gas, and the leaking gas exploded catching the house on fire. She escaped through a vent, spent 4 hours in the flood waters hanging on to a branch before being rescued and is hospitalized with burns over 67% of her body. It is not clear if that was her house on fire floating down the creek on many news reports.
the western part of the county has even more devastation, and I think more who lost their lives. Most of the counties in the state, except for the eastern panhandle are declared disaster areas.
These strange weather events seem to be coming more frequently. Usually this type of storm and heavy rain is the result of hurricanes or tornados. This was just buckets and buckets of unending rain.
Most of these appalachian folk are just average people of average or less means. it is impossible to describe the losses so many have suffered from a single day when nature had a tantrum.

We're OK. We are so lucky that most of the storm missed us, only a couple inches of rain. I'm so glad to hear everyone is OK.
It's just so awful to see and hear what has happened to so many in WV. The devastation and loss of life is overwhelming. I heard they are calling it a Thousand Yr flood. 12 in of rain in the mountains.
