Last evening on FB I happened upon the following conversation. All the responses except the one were positive towards the foundation cattle of the breed. It is interesting that the only negative offerings were those of the moderator/owner of the board. You won't find the entire conversation there today and I cannot provide more of the negative opinion because the thread was edited with portions you see here and some following deleted before I copied the thread. There were a few important things to be taken from this conversation. . .. . . and pondered. Like ambition, attitudes, personality, discrimination, power, control, and those with the power to censor and create false impressions with the ability to edit or delete. I had a phone call about another conversation which I did not see a couple days previous where a prominent breeder and prolific poster of advice and information called a new person "ignorant" for posting a picture of a dun bull and wondering if he was dun, and whether it should be kept as a possible breeding bull. . . . . .made a couple derogatory remarks and then deleted them. . . . . . thereby preserving a pretense of personality. I want reality. . . . where I can make my own assessments of information and personality based on all the available data. . . .. not on that which has been slanted or edited to promote that which is not real at all. Our society seems to have become expert at this sort of manipulation of data. Judy

I have been way to busy to keep up with face book. I can only see what is out there now. Maybe I will have to go and post a picture of little Jitsise. I will have to find time to get a current picture of her.

I've really enjoyed the Shorty of the Day postings. I haven't had a lot of time to spend on FB lately but it's been fun checking in and seeing who's on today. We can fill 5 days when Hans starts running low. LOL

Absolutely agree with you wvdexters, I too am checking out the shortie of the day (and then looking over our shorties and making a few breeding edits in the plan...................I want what Hans has............ *S*) Just a side note: It boils my blood to hear of a long time breeder squashing the thrill of Dexter ownership in a new owner. Its a simple question to 'check' the colour of one's Dexters with others; sometimes it is also just a way a newbie wants to join in the conversations with "those in the know". Its this type of attitude and comments that have newbies slinking back into the corner - not learning - afraid to ask questions, feeling ostracised in one foul swoop. Then the same long term breeders throw their arms up in the air wondering why newbies go off and do their own thing (sometimes making references to how they are ruining the breed etc...........) Cant have your cake and eat it too peoples !!!!!!! Thank goodness for this forum where all are welcome - and are made to feel welcome

I've had at least a dozen people contact me by private message and tell me that they have changed their mind about shorties, and are looking to add them to their herd at some point in time

Hans,
It has been a joy for me to see the folks who are not only speaking out....but doing so with purpose. It is as if the fear of being chastised or bullied and shamed is melting away within the breed and owners iwho have dwarf cattle and appreciat their value have set aside their reticence at saying so!

We just sold a traditional lines short leg bull to a family in the UP of Michigan yesterday. They are looking forward to adding some Traditional Dexters over the coming years :-)

It is wonderful seeing so many breeders showing off their shorties. They are what brought us to the breed, and I believe so many others too.
