I bought a pan at a yard sale. Mostly because I'd never seen one before and the price made it worth investigating. It is made of metal and has good solid weight to it. It looks just like the old metal ice trays except for size. Two ice cube trays could fit in it. It has a removal section seperated into sections just like an ice cube tray. However the bottom is open. There is a lip around the bottom on which the section with the metal seperations sits, but the entire center of the pan is open, so anything you would pour into it would pour right out again.
Is it some sort of baking pan that you are supposed to line the bottom with parchment or something? Perhaps there are bakers who read here that might know?

I'm pretty sure it's a brownie pan. Here is a video showing how it's used. It's a 3 piece set. Maybe your's was one of the earlier ones.

WAy to go Barb! That was perfect sleuthing. The pan I have is identical to the one in the "made-for-Tv" commercial! It is apparently missing the bottom insert. Darn if Mom wasn't right again. ("Buy a bargain, get a bargain"), but it looks like a good mold for making soap. Maybe? Though I rarely make brownies and have never made soap.
